Newest in the design magazines, not even in showrooms yet... white is back!
White painted cabinetry, frequently paired with carrera marble, which has
always been considered too porous for kitchen use.
White walls are starting to be discussed, too. Seems so plain after the color binge
we’ve all been on, but fashion for the home isn’t any different than clothing.
Change makes you buy more.
What's In (or Still In)
- Home offices
- Radiant heating (in the floor)
- Media rooms
- Laundries on the same floor as the bedrooms
- Multi-purpose living/dining area, frequently in the kitchen
- Compartmentalized master suites, including a breakfast bar for a complete retreat
- Big base cabinet drawers instead of cabinet doors with rollout drawers behind
- Wood tones in cabinets
- Arts and Crafts anything... exactly one hundred years later, it’s all the rage again
- Multiple finishes and design elements in a kitchen or bath
- 'Zen' style, Asian-inspired finishes and furnishings, as well as fixtures.
- Kitchens designed with a weekday triangle and a weekend triangle
What's Out
- Soaring vaulted ceilings
- 2-story entry foyer
- Formal living and dining room- when they are used, it’s one or the other.
